He will not survive!

It is cruel to set your pet rabbit free.

Domesticated pet rabbits are NOT the same as the wild cottontails you see in your yard. Pet rabbits are not descendents of cottontails - they are not even the same species. Wild rabbits are born with instincts that help them to survive outdoors, but your pet rabbit does not have those instincts.

Your pet rabbit does not know how to look for food because food has been provided for him since he was a baby. Also, he does not know the difference between edible and poisonous plants. Even if he manages to beat the odds and find grass to eat during the summer, he will certainly not survive when the weather turns cold and snow covers the ground.

Rabbits are prey animals, which means that they do not hunt. They are not able to defend themselves and are easy targets for wild animals as well as roaming dogs and cats.
If you set your pet rabbit free, you are providing another animal with an easy dinner.

Be responsible! If you have a pet rabbit that you no longer want, you should try to find him a new home. Contact your local animal shelter or rescue groups - DO NOT SET HIM FREE!
